GRAFENWOEHR, Germany —
The 2nd Cavalry Regiment recently received seven Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles with 30 mm cannon, nicknamed "Dragoon" after 2CR, and seven Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station-Javelin Strykers for testing and evaluation. Media are invited to observe the gunnery phase of testing Feb. 20 at Grafenwoehr Training Area.
During this portion of the testing, 2CR Soldiers will conduct live fire training with the 30 mm Stryker and the CROWS-J to certify the crews on these new platforms. Media will be able to observe the 30 mm Stryker live, and the CROWS-J as a static display.
Following the training, media are invited to a press conference with representatives from 2CR, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command and Training and Doctrine Command's Capability Manager Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
According to Program Executive Office-Ground Combat Systems, the upgraded 30 mm Strykers have a remotely-operated 30 mm cannon weapon system, unmanned turret, fully-integrated commander's station, upgraded driveline components and hull modifications. The CROWS-J adds an integrated, remotely operated anti-armor capability meant to defeat armor threats at greater distances.
These upgraded capabilities were created to fill a capability gap in the European theater and were requested in a 2015 urgent operational needs statement. These systems have undergone a rapid acquisitions process in order to provide 2CR, the longest serving cavalry regiment in the U.S. Army, with the needed capability.
Media interested in attending must submit (1) a copy of media credentials; (2) a copy of your passport; and (3) signed liability waiver, to Capt. Judith Marlowe at judith.a.marlowe.mil@mail.mil by Feb. 16.
