DEFENDER

DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

The Evasive Invasive
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District
June 3, 2025 | 6:02
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Department of Geological Survey search for swamp eels in the shallow edges of the Winter Park Chain of Lakes in Orlando, Fla. Swamp eels are not only invasive but also evasive. The multi-agency team uses electroshock to stun the eels for a short time. The swamp eels burrow themselves in the banks of lakes and ponds, making it challenging to capture and manage the spread of this problematic fish. USACE plays a critical role in America's growth and prosperity; we prioritize invasive species management as they affect the ecosystem, flood control, hydropower, and national security.
