12th CAB fixed-wing operations essential to Army’s mission in Europe
Echo Company of the 1-214th Aviation Battalion, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, based at Wiesbaden Army Airfield provides a unique capability to the U.S. Army Europe-Africa commander that many people do not know exists. Army fixed-wing aviation provides small jet and turbo-prop platforms such as the UC-35 and C-12 that can fly quickly over long distances and land at small airfields.

World War II veteran recalls fighting in Battle of the Bulge
A poster hangs on the wall of Richard Idstein’s home on this quiet street in a northwest Chicago suburb. It says Bataille Des Ardennes in bold black letters with the years 1944 and 1994 below it. In the hallway, near the front door, is a picture frame holding a Purple Heart, bullet and Army medals. It’s the home of a World War II Soldier who remembers the day the Battle of the Bulge started.

Commanders for all Ground Forces in Europe meet with NATO LANDCOM commander
The U.S. Army has made significant changes within the last two years in order to increase capability and focus in the European and African theaters – as has NATO. Recognizing these changes, the Commander of Allied Land Command, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Roger Cloutier, invited the Commanders of the newly consolidated U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command, newly reactivated V Corps, and newly consolidated Southern European Task Force, Africa to his headquarters to discuss opportunities to harmonize efforts with his NATO land forces focused mission.

Marines in Germany give back to bereaved mother
In early December of 2011, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher Levy, an infantryman with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, was conducting combat operation in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when he was wounded and medically evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Following days of fighting for his life, Levy eventually succumbed to his wounds on Dec. 10, 2011.
