A C-130 Hercules from the 179th Airlift Wing flew over the crowd for the kickoff of the Summer Moon Festival July 22, 2017, in Wapakoneta, Ohio. This year the event marked the 48th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar mission, a mission that has special ties to the unit. A former member, Fred Haise, trained as a NASA astronaut in 1969 as part of the backup crew for Apollo 11. He served from 1961 to 1962 in the 164th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Mansfield.
