DEFENDER is the Army’s largest annual opportunity to exercise moving personnel and equipment into theater across modes for initial and follow-on operations critical to Large Scale Combat Operations. Led by U.S. Army Europe and Africa, the exercise focuses on the strategic deployment of CONUS-based forces, employment of Army Prepositioned Stock and follow-on exercises demonstrating lethality and interoperability with Allies and partners

240324-N-CD453-1001 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 24, 2024) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105) conducts operations alongside Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Higgins (DDG 76), USS Howard (DDG 83), USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), and Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Kongo-class destroyer JS Kongo (DDG 173) in the Philippine Sea, March 24-30. Dewey is forward-deployed and assigned to DESRON 15, the Navy’s largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th fleet’s principal surface force.
