Media Advisory - U.S. Army Europe and Africa to hold European Best Sniper Team competition

July 26, 2022

HOHENFELS, Germany —

U.S. Army Europe and Africa will hold the European Best Sniper Team competition Aug. 5-11 at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany.

The European Best Sniper Team competition is designed to bring sniper teams from NATO Allies and partners in Europe together to hone their skills, build esprit de corps, and share tactics, techniques, and procedures.

The training event includes rigorous and realistic training for the participants and will test the participants on tasks such as rifle and pistol marksmanship, urban target detection and night operations.

Fifteen countries are currently scheduled to participate in the competition including the U.S.

"These multinational competitions are about building relationships and sharing skills between the participants," said Command Sgt. Jeremiah Inman, U.S. Army Europe and Africa command sergeant major. "All of these elite warriors will leave with more technical and tactical proficiency, as well as a heightened sense of partnership and interoperability."

The 7th Army Training Command designed the competition to test the fundamentals and advanced sniper tactics. Members of the Latvian National Armed Forces and U.S. Army will grade the participants to determine the best sniper team in Europe.

The team from the Slovenian Armed Forces won the competition in 2021, with teams from Turkey and Latvia placing second and third respectively. This year’s winner will be announced Aug. 11.

7th ATC will host media Aug. 8 to observe a portion of the competition. Space will be limited and media should RSVP by Aug. 3.
